Blacklist

A list of IP addresses or domains that mail receivers use to reject or flag mail; now more often called a blocklist.

In practice

Public lists and private ones kept by mailbox providers record senders linked to spam or abuse. A receiver that consults a list may reject, filter or throttle mail from an entry on it.

The two older and newer names mean the same thing. This site uses blocklist where it can.

Verification and sending

Appearing on a list is usually a result of sending to bad or unwanted addresses. Verifying a list before you send removes one common cause: mail to addresses that do not exist.
