Honeypot

A trap used against abuse: either a hidden form field that bots fill in, or an address that exists only to catch spam senders.

In practice

In forms, a field people never see lets you drop submissions that fill it. In mail, a spam trap address never signs up to anything, so any mail it receives shows the sender collected addresses without consent.

Verification and sending

You cannot reliably identify spam traps in a list, so prevention matters: collect with consent, verify and remove long-inactive contacts.
