ActiveCampaign review: what to check before you commit
A criteria-based look at ActiveCampaign’s published email and automation features, and where list verification fits.
ActiveCampaign sells itself as marketing automation with a CRM, not just an email editor. This review is based on what the vendor publishes; it is not a hands-on lab test. Use it as a checklist, then run your own pilot.
What the vendor publishes
ActiveCampaign describes contact-tiered plans that combine email, automation, segmentation and CRM features. The pricing page asks for your contact count and goals, so the real cost depends on list size and the features you turn on.
Where verification fits
Automation multiplies whatever is in the list: a bad address can trigger a sequence, damage sender reputation and waste sends. Check addresses at signup and before an import. If you use the API, confirm how it reports invalid, risky, catch-all and unknown results, and whether unknown checks are billed.
Questions to ask
- Which plan includes the automation and CRM features you actually need?
- How does the API handle rate limits and retries?
- Can you export contacts and verification results without losing history?
- What happens to suppressed and bounced addresses on the next import?
Run a small pilot
Verify a sample, import it, send a small campaign and compare bounces with the predictions. Judge on your own results instead of a comparison table.
